I strongly believe that everyone should strive to lead a happy, healthy and fulfilling life. Modern lifestyles tend to leave us time poor and promote over-indulgence whereas we need to be more proactive in seeking opportunities to be active and look after our health. In addition, lifestyle diseases are becoming more prevalent which can often be counteracted by behaviour change strategies without the need for medical intervention. Although these may feel difficult to achieve, there are adaptations we can make to our daily lives, that with scientific knowledge and understanding, can have a positive and long lasting effect.
Who can I help?
I have a particular interest in working with children, adolescents and adults who have chronic diseases or have been through a significant life event. These include but are not limited to: asthma, auto-immune dysfunctions, cancer, chronic pain, diabetes, eating behaviours, heart disease, menopause, pre- and post-natal care and stroke.
What I offer
I offer a bespoke consultancy programme that is tailored to each individuals’ needs and circumstances. This may involve changes to diet, exercise and sleep habits but I work with people on a one-to-one basis to try and develop long-lasting positive changes that can improve their quality of life.
A typical cycle of work with a client would involve an initial assessment consultation to discuss the clients needs and expectations and for us to agree that we would be happy to work together. Following this there would be a six week block of weekly consultations to guide the client through the changes that we have agreed upon. This can include some basic physiological tests, nutritional analysis and recording, exercise habits and targets, occupational and leisure time routines and sleep hygiene. There is no blueprint to be followed and each clients’ individual needs and aspirations will be taken into account and re-assessed on a week to week basis, with special considerations given to personal medical conditions and their concomitant implications.
How will you benefit?
For many, the routine of having a Health Behaviour Consultant to talk and be accountable to on a regular basis is the inspiration and motivation they need to re-establish a new lifestyle. Working together to set challenging but achievable targets means that improvements can be seen from an early stage. Following the six week cycle clients may choose to continue with weekly appointments or decide that they are happy to continue with their changes independently. Some clients may opt to re-visit the program on a cyclical basis, for example every six months, or as and when they feel they need to re-examine their health and lifestyle.
